Quartersawn white oak door, Insulated, 3" thick
Architect: Morgante-Wilson, Wilemette, IL
Construction: This door is approximately 42" wide by 86" tall and 3" thick. At well over 200 lbs. the doors swings with a finger touch, thanks to the five ball bearing hinges. It is built from quartersawn white oak with mortise & tenon construction. The stiles and rails are laminated 3/4" lumber with a veneer lumber core The wood panels (interior and exterior) are separated by a sealed foam core. Note the lead medallions that run across the door into the leaded glass sidelights (Marilyn's Stained Glass, Hancock, MI). The transom is made with true divided lights, 1" thick argon filled as the other lights.
This entry system was delivered unfinished and uninstalled, the local contractor choosing to handle that aspect of the work. Close coordination with the architect was required to ensure lines and elevations were correct and the opening was sized correctly.
